Plan overnight stays

To record what you liked about a campground, hotel or other saved stay, use its Review action in Navigator or Trip Feedback. See review a trip and its experiences. Multi-night stays have one review; your feedback is private.

User guide index

Accepted Owners can create, edit, and remove overnight plans. Accepted Planners and Members can view them. An overnight plan records an intended stay; the booking belongs in a separate reservation.

Add a stay

  1. Open Overnight plans from the trip, or use the overnight action within a trip day.
  2. Select Add overnight plan.
  3. Enter the location name, arrival date, and departure date. Departure must be after arrival.
  4. Choose the overnight type and planning status.
  5. Under Additional details, add an address, known coordinates, and notes if useful. Supply both latitude and longitude, or leave both empty.
  6. Select Create stay.

Example: arrive at Watchman Campground on May 14, 2027 and depart May 16. This is two nights, covering the nights of May 14 and 15. Departure is not another night.

The stay appears on days it covers. Plans outside the trip range can be flagged; check their dates before relying on the daily display.

Fill stay details from text

  1. Open the add or edit form and find Fill from text or a website with AI.
  2. Describe the stay, paste relevant details, or enter an optional Website URL. You can combine a campground page with instructions such as “Stay here for the first three nights.”
  3. Select Analyze & fill fields. Your text and readable website content are sent to the configured AI provider.
  4. Review every filled field and warning, especially the location, dates, and planning status. Correct mistakes or use Undo AI fill.
  5. Select Create stay or Save changes to save the reviewed form.

Analysis only fills the form; it does not save the stay. Provider availability is not verified.

Website analysis supports public HTTP/HTTPS HTML and plain-text pages. Pages requiring login, JavaScript or a human verification check may be unreadable; paste the relevant text instead. Long pages can be truncated, with a warning. A property page alone does not establish your dates or a confirmed booking. The Website URL is not saved.

Find Accommodation

  1. Open an existing stay's details, the trip's Overnight plans list, or its trip-day card.
  2. Select Find Accommodation.
  3. For a defined overnight type with a preferred provider, the provider opens immediately in a new tab. Your ViaMore page stays open.
  4. When the type is Unknown, or no provider can be resolved, choose a provider in the dialog and select Continue. Labels identify the accommodation types and your preferred providers.
  5. Select Cancel or close the dialog to return without opening a website or changing anything.

The initial defaults are:

Overnight type Default provider
Campground ViaMore Campsite Search
Hotel / Hotel-Motel Expedia
Vacation rental / Vacation Home Airbnb
Other / Other Accommodation Booking.com

Dispersed Camping and Friend Or Family have no initial provider. They use the selection dialog unless you save a supported provider or custom website for that type. Dispersed Camping offers iOverlander and Campendium as discovery websites. Unknown always opens the dialog, even if you have saved a custom website for it.

Use Filter providers in the dialog to find a provider by name, accommodation type, or classification. Labels distinguish booking websites, discovery directories, membership services and ViaMore's internal search. Changing the filter clears your current selection; choose a provider from the filtered list before continuing. Clear the filter to see all providers again.

The dialog includes your saved custom websites. To use another website just once, select Custom HTTPS website — use once, enter its address, and wait for Website ready before selecting Continue. Invalid addresses show an error and cannot be opened. Choosing a provider here does not change the overnight type or save a preference.

External websites open directly: ViaMore does not send stay dates, booking details or reservation identifiers, check availability, or import a booking. Record any booking separately in Reservations.

Set accommodation preferences

  1. Open My profile and find Accommodation Preferences.
  2. Choose a provider for each overnight type. Existing choices are shown; types without a saved choice use the application default.
  3. For a custom website, choose Custom website and enter an absolute HTTPS address such as https://example.com/stays. Plain HTTP, unsafe schemes, embedded credentials and invalid hostnames are rejected.
  4. Select Save accommodation preferences. If a form has changed elsewhere, use Reload current preferences before trying again.
  5. To remove all your provider overrides, select Restore Defaults.

Preferences belong to you and apply across your trips. Changing them does not edit existing stays or reservations. The separate Campground Discovery settings controls which campsite data services and campground categories ViaMore searches; those choices are not changed by saving or restoring accommodation preferences.

The standard catalog includes hotel booking sites and chains, vacation-home services, campground/RV booking sites, alternative stays and regional park reservation websites. Providers that support multiple accommodation types appear in each applicable selector. Membership labels describe the service; ViaMore does not manage membership or verify eligibility. Regional park website choices open the public reservation entry point; they do not enable or replace any campsite API service.

  1. For a Campground stay using the default provider, select Find Accommodation. For an Unknown stay, choose ViaMore Campsite Search in the dialog and select Continue.
  2. The existing campsite search opens in a new tab. Check your enabled services and campground categories, then enter a search location or a known coordinate pair, radius and distance units.
  3. Confirm a proposed location if prompted, then select Search. Open a result's details and inspect its source and booking information.
  4. As an Owner, select Use for overnight plan when available.
  5. Review the before-and-after location, address, coordinates, type and warnings. Missing replacement values clear old values.
  6. Select Update overnight plan to confirm, or Cancel.

Searching and viewing results do not modify stored plans. Only explicitly confirming the existing update action changes the complete stay's location. Stay dates and the Trip Day location remain unchanged, and no booking is created. Search results depend on enabled providers, their coverage and your filters; live availability is not verified. A link to Recreation.gov opens its website, while ViaMore Campsite Search uses the separately configured API discovery services.

Edit or remove a stay

  1. Open the stay and select Edit stay.
  2. Update its details and select Save changes.
  3. Review linked reservations separately; editing a stay does not change or cancel bookings.

To remove it, open the removal action, read the confirmation, and select Permanently remove stay. Linked reservations are retained and unlinked. No booking is cancelled. Removal cannot be undone through this confirmation workflow.

To record a booked campground, create or edit a reservation and link it to the overnight plan. Accepted Owners and Planners can manage the reservation even though overnight-plan editing is Owner-only.
